How Does Wearable Water-Cooling Clothing Work? A Plain-Language Guide
共有
Wearable water-cooling clothing works by circulating chilled water through thin tubes built into a garment. A small cooling unit worn at the waist cools the water and pumps it around a closed loop of 6 mm water lines inside the shirt, so the fabric against your body stays cool continuously while you wear it. FROSTSKIN's system is battery-powered and portable, so the cooling moves with you instead of tying you to a desk fan or an air-conditioned room.
This guide explains the system in plain language: what the parts are, what the cooling figures actually mean, and what to expect from battery life, sizing and shipping.
What are the parts of a water-cooling system?
The FROSTSKIN system has three working parts:
- The garment. A shirt with a network of 6 mm water lines running through it. The lines carry cool water across the torso, which is where cooling has the most effect on comfort.
- The cooling unit. A compact unit measuring approximately 13 × 7.8 cm that cools the water and circulates it through the loop. It is carried on a 5 cm waist belt, so its weight sits on your hips rather than your shoulders.
- The power bank. The unit runs from a USB power bank, which makes the system portable — there is no fixed power supply and no cable to a wall socket while you wear it.
See the complete setup on the Short-Sleeve Cooling System product page.
How cold does the water actually get?
In prototype testing at an ambient temperature of 40°C / 104°F, the circulating water in the system reached approximately 28°C / 82°F — a drop of about 12°C / 22°F between the surrounding air and the water moving through the garment.
Read that figure carefully, because it is often misunderstood: 28°C is the temperature of the circulating water, not a body temperature or core temperature measurement. The system cools the water in the loop; the cool garment then draws heat away from your skin where it makes contact. It does not lower, and does not claim to lower, your core body temperature by 12 degrees.
How long does the battery last?
Runtime depends on the power bank you use. The system includes a Xiaomi power bank that runs the unit for approximately 1 hour. A UGREEN power bank, available for an additional $10, extends that to approximately 2 hours. Because the unit is powered by standard power banks, you can also swap in a charged spare to keep going, the same way you would with a phone.
Who is wearable cooling clothing for?
It suits anyone who has to stay in hot environments where air conditioning is absent, impractical or not theirs to control: outdoor and physical work in summer heat, commuting, travel, festivals and events, or working in warm indoor spaces. Because the cooling is worn rather than installed, it also works in rented rooms, vehicles and temporary work sites. How much does the FROSTSKIN Short-Sleeve Cooling System cost?
The Short-Sleeve Cooling System is $159, reduced from a regular price of $199. Shipping is US$30 on orders under US$100 and US$9.90 on orders of US$100 or more. Orders are dispatched within 7 days, and standard delivery takes an estimated 7–10 days after dispatch.
FAQ
Is this the same as an air-conditioning shirt with fans?
No. Fan shirts move air across the skin. FROSTSKIN circulates cooled water through lines inside the garment in a closed loop, so the cooling surface itself is cold to the touch rather than just ventilated.
Does it lower your core body temperature by 12 degrees?
No. The approximately 12°C / 22°F figure is the difference between the 40°C / 104°F ambient air in prototype testing and the roughly 28°C / 82°F circulating water. It describes the water in the system, not a change in body or core temperature.
How long does the included power bank run the system?
Approximately 1 hour with the included Xiaomi power bank. The UGREEN power bank option (+$10) runs for approximately 2 hours, and you can swap in any charged power bank to extend use.
How big is the cooling unit?
Approximately 13 × 7.8 cm. It is worn on a 5 cm waist belt, and the garment's water lines are 6 mm in diameter.
How much is shipping, and how long does delivery take?
Shipping is US$30 for orders under US$100 and US$9.90 for orders of US$100 or more. Orders are dispatched within 7 days, with delivery estimated at 7–10 days after dispatch.
